Anatol
Stern. Europa
Facsimile reproduction of one of the first Polish
futurist poems, written in 1925 and first published in 1929. 1962. Translated
from the Polish by Stefan Themerson and Michael Horovitz. Introduction
by Michael Horovitz indicates its application to Europe in the 1960s,
which is further emphasized by the unique representation of the art of
the 'twenties in the typography and design. Preface by Oswell Blakeston.
Illustrations and layout by Mieczyslaw Szczuka. With photographs from
the film Europa made by Stefan and Franciszka Themerson 1930/32. 'Anatol
Stern yields not one centimetre to the decadence he describes, but refers
to an order which makes no distinction between social and aesthetic commitment.'
'The poem still has a contemporary message' - The Free Thinker.
'As reproduced now, it remains a telling document of its time.' The
Times Literary Supplement. Original cover design by Teresa Zarnower.
